Resume and cover letter writing:
Self-directed computer software or one-on-one staff assistance is available as well as a library of books and videotapes. Additional resources through CareerBuilder.com and Monster.com are available on our site’s Resume help page. [insert link to new page]
Job training:
Programs are available to eligible individuals as outlined in the Workforce Investment Act (W.I.A.). Registration in KANSASWORKS for job search and resume services begins the process. Heartland Works, Inc. staff will then provide Individual Training Accounts (I.T.A.) for qualified adults and individuals in need of financial assistance to meet the monetary needs of education necessary for employment.
Clerical testing:
Proficiency testing is available for typing, data entry, 10-key, math, grammar, and spelling. Typing tutorials are also available for various applications.
Veterans of the U.S. Armed Forces services:
Individuals who meet one or more of the following qualifications may obtain services. Contact the Veterans Representative.
- Those who served 180 days or more of active duty in the U.S. Armed Forces and who have a discharge other than dishonorable (does not include Active Duty for Training (ACDUTRA) or Annual Training (AT);
- Those discharged from active duty at any time due to a service-connected disability;
- Spouses of veterans who have died of a service-connected disability;
- Those who as a member of a reserve component were ordered to active duty
under Title 10 and served on active duty or in a campaign or expedition for
which a campaign badge is authorized and was discharged or released with other
than a dishonorable discharge.
Unemployment Insurance:
Persons who believe they are eligible for Unemployment Insurance benefits may apply by calling 1-800-292-6333 using a land-line touch-tone telephone from within the county of his/her residence or by internet at https://www.uibenefits.dol.ks.gov.
Migrant/Seasonal Farm Workers:
Individuals who have been engaged in seasonal farm work for extended periods of time and are interested in permanent, full-time employment may be eligible to receive employment and/or training information and assistance.
Note: Eligibility for some services is determined by federal guidelines.
